4-year checkup

Ryan had his 4-year checkup Thursday...the one I've been dreading because at this age they are well aware of what's coming...Shots. He was very brave. His crying stopped as soon as the nurse told him he could have a token for the little toy machine that has bouncy balls, tattoos, and DICE! He was so excited to get a big pink die to match the big green die he scored after his flu shot back in November. Now I can teach him to play craps.

He weighed in at 42 lbs and was 42 1/2 inches tall.

So far he's not showing any signs of chicken pox...

Sunday Six

I love reading these Sunday Six posts, so I thought I'd give it a try with Ryan and Luke, ages 4 and 6.

The topic this week:
School Supplies

1. What are school supplies?

Ryan: I don't know.
Luke: Pencils, scissors, glue, erasers.
Ryan: and tape!

2. Who usually buys school supplies?

Luke: Our teachers.
Ryan: Mr. O! and Mr O, he pays very much money for those books in the library.
(Mr. O is Mr Olivares, the owner of the daycare he attends. sounds like someone has been reprimanded for mistreating books...surely not Ryan though)

3. What do you carry your supplies in?

Ryan: I don't know.
Luke: Supply box.

4. Do you take your lunch to school?

Ryan: Yeah. (no he doesn't)
Luke: No, but I want to! (Damn! shoulda skipped that question)

5. What is your favorite school book?

Luke: I don't know.
Ryan: Arthur!

6. Do you have a backpack? If so, what does it look like?

Ryan: Yes, a froggy one and a fishy one.
Luke: Yes, it is black. It says Imtrepid on it. It has certain pockets and it rolls. And that is my opinion.

Chickenpox

So, my first-grader has the chickenpox! After just 3 days of school, he's going to end up missing about a week and a half. Oh well. Luckily he had the vaccine, so it seems to be a pretty mild case. He heard the doctor telling me about the deadly flesh-eating disease that you can get if any lesions get infected, so he's been doing great about not scratching.

Perhaps more disturbing than the chickenpox, was what we witnessed on TV in the pediatricians waiting room on the Disney Channel. I wasn't sure what the hell it was, but apparently they are called DoodleBops. WTF?
